Fort Nelson Area

Fort Nelson is the largest community within the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality (NRRM). It is characterized by an abundance of Natural Resources: lush mixed forests, exciting oil and natural gas development, an emerging agricultural sector, and a tourism sector anchored by the Alaska Highway.

Located on historic Mile 300 of the Alaska Highway, Fort Nelson is home to about 4800 residents. The town is experiencing healthy growth, however the NRRM anticipates accelerated growth over the next few years due to the Horn River Basin Unconventional Gas Play where 11 major companies plus a number of smaller players have invested heavily in Shale Gas development.
